African-Americans: and you are still hating?

This article is aimed at African-American unity here on campus, yet some points made here are for Americans as a whole.

I choose to address the “hate” issue between blacks on this campus. Of the 5800 students enrolled here, only 15% are African-Americans. That makes about 816 black students on this campus.

It’s evident everyday that racism is present. Too many Americans die as a result of hate crimes. Nevertheless, it’s even more pathetic when we’re hateful, or prejudice, against our own kind!

No, I’m not condoning any separation among races, but my point here is this: Our ancestors were forced, beaten and murdered in slavery; we were separated from our families. And you’re STILL hating? Our African-American leaders died in order to fight for our equal rights and you’re STILL hating?

Statistics show that blacks with a college degree receive an average of 20% less income on jobs than whites. And you’re STILL hating?

It’s true that everyone is not going to get along with everyone. And though “love” is God’s greatest commandment, it may be hard to love everyone as well.

We’re human!! But as African-Americans, we should strive to do a better job to be united. Let’s support each other. Let’s uplift each other. Let’s cut out our foolish attempts to bring another black brother or sister down.

Let’s not make the pain suffered by our ancestors be in vain. Our immaturity (yes, that’s what it is), is only hurting ourselves, our culture and our race. It’s unnecessary!

I mean, we’re all adults here. And we hate whomever we please, right? But half the people we choose to hate, we don’t even know.

Half the people we’re against, we don’t really understand. Half the people we just hate for no logical reason, we’re jealous of (agree with it or not, it’s proven).

And WE hurt more than the person we’re hating on. Cause if they’re anything like me, they're taking it like a silent compliment. You know?

In regards to segregation on this campus as a whole, our country is at war. Do you think our enemies are going to separate us by race?? NOOOO!

In their eyes, guess what? We’re all AMERICANS. And you’re STILL hating?

I mean, think about it. Where has hating ever got anyone?
