ADPi annual ‘Diamond Daze' to include cook-off,clothing drive

The sisters of Alpha Delta Pi will be hosting their annual Diamond Days events from Nov. 11-15.

A clothing drive will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 12 from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Clothing donations can be brought to the UC ballroom during these times. The clothing will be donated to We Care. Winter clothing is especially needed as the cold weather continues to sneak up on us.

We Care will distribute the donated clothing to less privileged citizens of Martin.

The clothing will be weighed. The team with the largest donation will be awarded a $100 prize, to be donated to a philanthropy or charity of the team's choice.

"The clothing drive is a great way for the campus to get involved in the Martin community," said ADPi President Tamara Oudman.

ADPi will also host its first annual chili cook off and supper on Tuesday, Nov. 12. The cook off and supper will last from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the UC Ballroom.

Organizations and individuals can enter the cook off in teams of up to five members. The entry fee for a five-member team is $20.

The teams with the best chili recipes will be awarded cash prizes. First place will receive a $100 donation to the philanthropy or charity of choice and second place will receive a $50 donation.

Chili must be ready to be judged at 5:30 p.m. The chili will be judged by UTM staff members on taste and appearance. A judge's choice and a student's choice will be selected for the best chili recipe.

Along with the cook off, a chili supper will also be held. Tickets are $5 and include chili, crackers, dessert and a drink. Tickets can be purchased from any ADPi or at the door.

All proceeds from the chili cook off and the chili supper will benefit the Ronald McDonald House.

"We hope this week is a positive influence for UTM," said Diamond Days chair Hayley Vise. "We really hope to raise as much money as possible for the Ronald McDonald House."

The Ronald McDonald House has been ADPi's national philanthropy since 1979. Over the past 22 years, ADPi has donated over $2 million to the organization.

Ronald McDonald Houses operate in 16 countries and provide comfort, care and a home away from home for families of seriously ill children receiving care at nearby hospitals.
