16 inducted into Order of Omega

The Theta Zeta chapter of the National Order of Omega held its annual induction banquet last night. Sixteen members of the greek community were inducted along with three honorary members, who serve as faculty at UTM.

Order of Omega recognizes the top three percent of greek leaders each year. Qualifications include a successful academic record, community involvement and leadership experience within the chapter, the greek system and the university. Honorees must be juniors or seniors in good standing with their organization.

Denny Bubrig, Order of Omega advisor said, “Having the opportunity to honor student leaders is always something I look forward to. The Order of Omega chapter at UTM is growing and expectations are high for the coming year.”

Among this year’s inductees were Dr. Jerald Ogg, Dean of the college of Humanities and Fine Arts, and his daughter, Jennifer Ogg. This is the first time in UT-Martin history, and maybe even in National history, that a parent/child combination was inducted into an Order of Omega chapter at the same time. “I’m not surprised about Jennifer being selected, but I’m surprised about being selected myself. I am excited about it and the fact that Jennifer was inducted also, makes it extra special. I’m glad she chose to attend UTM, both as a father and a Dean,” said Dr. Ogg.

After the induction ceremonies, Tiffany Eisenbise, the organization’s current president went over the agenda for the business meeting, to be held at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18. Officer elections will take place at that time as well as discussion on possible service projects. For the last couple of years, the chapter has held a ‘Faculty/Staff Night Out’ in order to give back to the campus.

During this event, faculty and staff members bring their children to the University Center and the Order of Omega members baby-sit while the faculty/staff get some time to themselves. This was just one suggestion, others may be brought up at the business meeting. Eisenbise also discussed the possibilities of combining forces with other honorary societies to better serve the campus with multiple projects.

As outgoing president, Eisenbise had this to say, “Serving as president has been fun and enjoyable. This experience has helped me prepare for further leadership roles and future endeavors.”
